It’s familiar territory but unfamiliar opposition for the North Ayrshire team as they prepare to compete against the fastest swimmers in the country at the British Summer Championships.
The season-ending event is being held at Tollcross in Glasgow this year in a switch from the Ponds Forge in Sheffield – something which seems to have provoked much discussion on swim forums south of the border…
It’s the third British event to be staged this year at the pool which also hosted SNAGS, as well as being the regular venue for West District Meets.
This season we’re proud to be taking a team of four who’ve qualified for the events where only the top 24 in their age group are selected to race.
Rory Dickson has qualified for 5 events in what will likely be his last appearance in North Ayrshire colours, and he’ll be in action from Tuesday through to Saturday in the 50m, 100m & 200m breaststroke plus the 200m & 400m IM.
Jen Murray also has 5 events, with an emphasis on the distance races where she excels. She’ll go in the 200m, 400m, 800m & 1500m freestyle as well as the 400m IM.
Fraser Kelly is expecting his best shot to be in the 200m fly and also has a place in the 400m IM.
Abby Kane will appear in her trademark 100m backstroke race and will take a decision during the championships on four other events where she is eligible.
Tickets are available at britishswimming.org if you fancy heading into Glasgow to watch the action, and sessions will also be live streamed – keep an eye on the club’s social media for links and updates from the team on poolside.
