We start the new season as we finished the last one – stuck on dry land and surrounded by uncertainty thanks to Covid-19.
The whole club shares the disappointment of the swimming community across Scotland at the announcement last week that pools may not be allowed to open until 14th September.
We can pin our hopes on a hint from the First Minister that this will be looked at again at the next lockdown review in the middle of August, but the reality is that even when the green light is given by the Government we will not be able to get back into the water until KA Leisure is able to reopen the pools.
Be assured there has been constructive dialogue between KA Leisure and the club for many weeks now, and more meetings are scheduled in the days and weeks to come.
Scottish Swimming has issued new guidance to pool operators and the committee is appointing Covid Officers who will ensure we comply with all the new rules when the time comes.
On the positive side we are now allowed to run outdoor sessions and land training sessions are being run for swimmers from the Gold, Youth and National on Saturday mornings in Irvine.
As they have been for the last four months swimmers are engaging in online catch-up sessions with Alan Dickson, who is leading our coaching team and is always available for one-to-one advice in relation to any swimming or training related issue.
We very much hope to be able to bring you some more positive news about a return to the water soon..
