There was good news and bad news in the Scottish Government’s latest announcement on local coronavirus restrictions.
North Ayrshire is one of only a handful of local authorities in West Central Scotland which has not been placed in Level 4 - and stays in Level 3 – meaning club training sessions can continue for all squads except Masters.
The bad news is that all our neighbouring areas – South and East Ayrshire, and Renfrewshire, will be placed in the highest level from 18.00 on Friday 20th November.
Travel out of Level 4 areas will be banned, by law, for all but essential reasons.
Sadly, swimming training does not count as essential travel, affecting club members who live in areas outside North Ayrshire.
The club has moved quickly to email the swimmers affected with the details of the change and advise them they do not need to pay squad fees for the month of December.
The Scottish Government says the Level 4 rules will only be in place for three weeks – until 11th December – we sincerely hope this proves to be the case and look forward to welcoming all our swimmers back to training then.
The First Minister also hinted that if progress against the spread of Covid-19 continues in North Ayrshire then it may be possible soon to move the area down into Level 2, which should allow our Masters swimmers to return to the pool.
